As they strolled through their neighborhood, two teenage boys spotted a group of people gathered around a car.
As they approached, they tried to discern the object of the group’s attention, but it was an extremely peculiar sight.
The creature was motionless and absolutely frozen.
The boys realized they needed to act quickly to save the animal, but they didn’t know how to help the unfortunate being.
According to the Canadian news outlet CBC, friends Jaydon Pettipas and Aidan Hart made the surprising discovery near the town of Saint Andrews in New Brunswick.
Before the day was over, the two teenage boys would be praised for their bravery.
They had to investigate what caused people to stop and stare, as they discovered some of them huddled together. However, they weren’t sure what they themselves were looking at up close.
The animal appeared to be completely frozen and was barely identifiable.
A squirrel covered in insulation foam was stuck under a car. They realized its time on Earth was limited.
« It was unrecognizable, » said 15-year-old Jaydon to CBC Canada.
The boys went into a grocery store and got a small milk crate to contain the squirrel, knowing it needed care but unsure how to provide it.
As time passed, the situation worsened, and no one nearby could advise the boys on what to do.
The teenagers called friends and relatives, asking for help.
Next, Jaydon’s mother intervened, calling a veterinarian 20 miles away and requesting immediate delivery of the animal.
« I’ve never seen anything like this, » exclaimed Dr. Melanie Eagan from the St. George Animal Clinic.
The squirrel, she explained, could barely move its hind legs because it was so insulated with foam.
The squirrel wouldn’t have survived if the boys hadn’t acted so quickly and if their mother hadn’t helped bring it in.
The cat would likely have been in someone’s shed, garage, or basement, speculated the veterinarian, and it got tangled up in the stuff.
« Agitated »
« This little guy has been running around when it was still wet, probably because someone plugged a hole to keep drafts out, » she said. « But this material hardens pretty quickly, so it wouldn’t have taken long for him to feel agitated. »
She added that to remove the foam from the animal’s fur, patience and alcohol were needed. The animal lost some fur as she brushed it out.
Since then, the squirrel has been allowed to return to the wild.
Thankfully, these two kind-hearted teenagers acted swiftly to save the poor creature! Please spread the word to honor their hard work!
