You unexpectedly run into a long-lost acquaintance, or you come home early from work and discover your spouse cheating on you.Sometimes the changes are minor, but sometimes they are monumental.
Something similar happened to Malissa Sergent Lewis when she took a different route to work last summer.One morning in the summer of 2016, Malissa Sergent Lewis was in a hurry to get to work on time at her elementary school in Kentucky.
Malissa wanted to get there faster, so she took a side street instead of the main road.Malissa will always be grateful for that decision.
That day, the road was empty except for one thing: a garbage bag.
But it wasn’t an ordinary garbage bag; it seemed to be alive.
« I saw this garbage bag on the road and thought to myself, ‘Did I just see that bag move?’ The closer I got, the more I realized it was moving, » Malissa told The Dodo.
Malissa felt she had to open the bag and see what was inside.Since she had no idea what was in the bag, she carefully got out of the car and approached it gently.
Malissa understood that whatever was in the bag hadn’t gotten there on its own because the bag was tied.Malissa carefully tore open the corner of the bag to look inside.
What was inside was even more surprising.
« It was a puppy. And he was very happy to see me. As soon as I opened it and he saw the light, he just started wagging his tail. I couldn’t believe it, » Malissa told The Dodo.
The puppy was found in the middle of the street after being put into a garbage bag. Even if the little dog had only been in there for a second, it would have been too long.
The puppy was wearing a collar but no identification tags.Since Malissa couldn’t bear to leave the puppy behind, she took him into the classroom.
The puppy was eventually taken home by her son. Afterward, he and Malissa took the puppy to the vet to have him examined and vaccinated.
It’s unclear how the dog ended up in a bag on the side of the road.Malissa called animal control after being concerned that the puppy would be abandoned or stolen.
However, the puppy was not reported missing, and no one came forward to claim him.
Fortunately, Malissa and her family adopted the puppy, so he receives the care and attention he deserves. However, she is puzzled as to who would commit such a heinous act.
« Who could do something like this to an animal? I don’t care who you are; everyone loves puppies. It’s a truly heartless person to put an animal, any animal, in a garbage bag and throw it on the side of the road, » Malissa told The Dodo.
The ways of the world are unfathomable. Malissa would never understand that.
